Should I Be Buying Silver Bullion and Survivial Seeds?

I've been reading up on investing in silver bullion, and only half facetiously. While I watched in amusement as Fox News pedaled "Survival Seeds," I have never felt as terrified of an apocalypse as I did when Rick Perry threw his hat in the Presidential Ring. That was, until Newt Gingrich start polling well.

Can someone explain to me how this works? In what universe is Newt Gingrich either:

a.) Electable
b.) Likable

He's horrible. This is the recipe to right the country? He makes Herman Cain look positively desirable. I have no explanation for what's going on in modern politics.

Disney Wedding Plans

I was looking around on the forums and what not about the best receptions spots in Disney World and I think I've made some decisions about what my dream wedding looks like. I was initially thinking that the Grand Floridian was the place for me, but the more I've looked into it the more I'm warming to the Contemporary Resort. The prices are pretty comparable, but the Contemporary seems a.) To be nicer, and b.) To be more my style. The GF looks great from the outside, but the room pictures, make me think that the Contemporary has the edge.

So now we just need to sort out the cake right? We all know the cake is going to be pink, so we just need some details! :)

The Pop Century Food Court

I was looking at pictures from our last trip to Disney World and I wanted to make mention of something: The Pop Century Food Court is awesome.

We had so many fun meals there and it was so convenient. I saw it busy sometimes when we weren't there, but every time we went it was relatively tame. The food is obviously not gourmet, but it was really enjoyable. Maybe it's because I don't eat food like that at home, but I had a blast eating it.

I also wanted to mention that the resort is wonderful. Pop Century is one of the cheapest resorts on property but it's still quite nice. It's like staying at a nice motel with great pools and amenities and of course a great food court. I highly recommend it if you're considering a Disney World vacation.

Travel for Couples

I was going through a post about traveling to Disney World as a couple and I noticed a few things that remind me how difficult it is to travel as a couple:

  • One of the first things is different objectives on your trip -- I like to do a lot of things and he likes to relax. This can cause serious difficulties.
  • Another problem is the simple fact that both of us treasure our vacation time. Because of this we both want to make the most of it, which can be a problem when objectives don't align.
  • Finally there's just different styles of approaching things. I'm a plan everything type of girl, while he likes to fly by the seat of his pants.
I'm trying to be prepared for doing some compromising. Hopefully he'll be in the same state of mind.

Traveling Today

Headed back home today, so won't get to write much. I'm not off to a great start if the second real day of my blog is a punt, but I'm back for several weeks once I get there, so I should be able to get in a good groove. In fact I don't head out again until Christmas, so I should be able to get some serious writing done.

Offshore Drilling as a Microcosm of Every Political Issue

For those of us at the liberal end of the spectrum, the current Florida offshore drilling issue typifies the same catch-22 we face on every issue. The public generally supports us, but not enough to counteract the beating we take from the right on the subject.

If questioned most people probably don't think we should re-open offshore drilling until something is resolved about safety concerns, but quite simply that was yesterdays news. Meanwhile we're being beaten to death by the right on the same subject. One wonders if we're picking the wrong fights?
